Joel Tobias, a business analyst in Edmonton, asked me and my friend Conner Sajjad to build a fully editable portfolio. Using WordPress and Advanced Custom Fields, we created a site where Joel can easily add and update projects, blogs, and images.
I handled backend development, building custom fields and integrating them into a custom WordPress theme. I also created dynamic menus using WordPress's menu system with custom code, making navigation easy to manage from the admin panel.
This project strengthened my skills in PHP, JavaScript, and WordPress customization. I learned how to balance backend flexibility with a user-friendly frontend and gained experience building adaptable solutions for client needs.

For my NAIT web stream capstone, I worked with two teammates to build a site for Pacesetter Ski and Snowboard, a local Edmonton shop. Their main goal was an online catalogue to display products and stock status. We used WordPress with WooCommerce, integrating it with Pacesetter's Lightspeed POS to sync real-time product data.
I focused on catalogue functionality and theme development using PHP and JavaScript, implemented Advanced Custom Fields for backend content management, and designed menu styles for navigation and filters.
I learned to handle complex filterable navigation and multi-layered menus, as well as the challenge of managing Advanced Custom Fields. Communicating with our client taught us to refine requirements and adapt when early assumptions proved wrong.
Andante Building Services, an Edmonton-based company, needed a professional website to showcase their services and projects. I developed the site using WordPress with Advanced Custom Fields, allowing their team to easily update service details, images, and content through the backend.
I handled all backend development, creating custom fields and templates tailored to Andante's needs. I also worked on implementing a clean content structure that made updating and managing their services simple and efficient.
This project highlighted the importance of clear client communication. Through regular meetings and feedback, I learned how to translate client requests into practical WordPress solutions while ensuring the backend remained intuitive for non-technical users.
